For starters, it is helpful for us to know the make & model of the appliance you're venting.  Even better, if you can send us a sketch of flue routing showing all centerline-to-centerline dimensions from the appliance outlet to termination, we can lay out your system, with adequate support and applicable accessories to help ensure a trouble-free and code compliant installation.

Can I Recover Waste Heat From a Flue?

ENERVEX’s VHX Economizer is a Waste Heat to Water (WHW) heat exchanger that converts exhaust waste heat into hot water.

The VHX is designed around our modular hybrid micro-channel/plate heat exchanger modules that are extremely efficient, yet compact. It is extremely versatile and can serve dual uses such as supplying hot water to a Waste Heat to Power (WHP) system while simultaneously supplying hot water to a separate application. Compared by physical size it produces 200% to 300% more savings than a traditional economizer.

In many applications and processes, as much as 20 to 50% of the energy consumed is ultimately lost via waste heat in streams of hot exhaust gases or from heated product streams.
 
Where can the waste heat be used?
